Privacy policy

The short version

SiteReckoner is a free set of calculators. We do not ask you to make an account, and we do not want your personal details. Anything you type into a calculator stays on your own device. We do measure how many people visit which pages, and the site is paid for by advertising, which involves cookies. That is the whole picture, and the rest of this page explains it properly.

Calculator inputs never leave your browser

Every calculation on this site runs as JavaScript inside your own browser. The dimensions, quantities, budgets and job details you type are used to work out the numbers on screen and nothing else. They are not sent to a server, not written to a database, not logged, and not shared with anyone. Close the tab and they are gone.

This is true of every calculator on the site, including the cost estimators. If you are pricing a job you would rather not discuss, you can do it here without leaving a record with us.

What we do collect

We use standard web analytics to understand which pages people find useful. That collects things like the page you viewed, roughly where in the world you are, the type of device and browser you used, and which site or search sent you here. It is reported to us in aggregate. We do not use it to identify individual people, and we do not try to link it to anything you type into a calculator.

Like almost every web server, our hosting provider keeps short-term technical logs of requests, which include IP addresses. These are used for security and to keep the site running, and are not used for marketing.

Cookies and advertising

This site uses cookies. Some are necessary for the site to function and to remember simple preferences. Others are set by our analytics provider so that repeat visits are not counted twice.

SiteReckoner is supported by advertising, and advertising involves third-party cookies. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or to other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and other sites on the internet.

You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. You can also opt out of a wider group of third-party vendors at aboutads.info/choices, or youronlinechoices.eu in Europe. Opting out stops ads being personalised; it does not remove ads.

Your browser also lets you block or delete cookies entirely. The calculators will still work if you do.

Third parties we rely on

We use a hosting provider to serve the site, an analytics provider to count visits, and an advertising network to fill the ad slots. Each of those handles data under its own privacy policy. We do not sell data to anyone, because we do not hold data worth selling.

Children

This site is aimed at homeowners and trade professionals. It is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to ask what information is held about you, to have it corrected, or to have it deleted. Because we hold no account data and no calculator inputs, in practice there is usually nothing for us to return. If you want us to look, write to us and we will.

Changes to this policy

If we start collecting something new, or change advertising providers in a way that matters, we will update this page and change the date at the top.
